I was planning to sightsee in Pamplona today and move on in the afternoon.
Tried to get money out of Compass bank without luck, did my sightseeing and found another Compass bank so tried their ATM, and I was so anxious about getting money and not that I thought they kept my card. I went into a total panic and went to the manager who said he could do nothing until after 2 pm. It was only 11., and that my card might be shredded! Communication was very sketchy due to my poor attempt at Spanish. I went out and sat on a bench outside trying not to cry.
A couple of pilgrims came by about an hour later who spoke a little English (from France). I told them what was happening so she tried to help by going with me back into the bank and again speaking to the manager. She made herself understood much better than me. He opened up the ATM and my card was not there! I was frantic by now. He said maybe someone had taken it from the machine after I left. Then I really was frantic! I said I have to cancel my account, and could he call the U.S. ? Reluctantly he tried, no luck. He asked if I had another card and I said yes ,from chase . No affiliation. He asked if I had my account number. I opened my wallet and there was my compass card!! I had absolutely no memory of putting it back. I know miracles do happen on the Camino, but I am not sure that this was one of them, more likely my lack of mindfulness and panic. I know he thought I was a total idiot from America. I gave him a hug and apologized profusely. I realized that I was totally exhausted and needed to stay in Pamplona and rest.
I bought my French Camino angel her lunch, walked back to where I stayed last night and booked my bed and slept for two hours!!
By the way, Pamplona is the most beautiful city I have ever seen .
I went to part of two Masses in two churches before my fiasco.
