Many years ago, I had the opportunity to visit Akutan, a small village situated on the Aleutian island chain.

Working as a Marine Biologist on the Ground Fisheries of Alaska, I completed several contracts aboard a variety of ships, from small 5 person crew to large factory-processing vessels with more than 150 crew. My work was focused on collecting fisheries data for NOAA to ensure stocks remained healthy through managed harvest.

Akutan is of my favorite villages.
According to the website: http://www.aleutianseast.org/ Akutan is the friendliest fishing community in the Aleutians …
There are only two ways to get to Akutan, by plane or by ship. By plane, you must land and rake-off from the water in a special plane called “The Goose”.
